Manchester’s Seveer Media secured two contracts as a result of the Royal visit to Manchester and Salford today.

The video and animation specialists were commissioned to film the visit and create a commemorative film for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Saint Mary’s Hospital and Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Seveer also designed a unique 3D, animated holographic for Salford University, which was unveiled by HRH Prince Phillip.

Both projects involved short delivery times and were shrouded in secrecy thanks to the security surrounding the Royal party.

Seveer Media managing director Stuart Reeves said: “We have filmed the visit for the NHS Trust and will be cutting and editing the footage as soon as the Queen leaves the final building.

“The 3D holographic we’ve created for Salford University is an interpretation of the four main themes of the university. It reflects the University’s consolidated areas of strength in teaching, learning and research excellence.

“It was played on a Dreamoc display, a 3D mixed reality system which the university used for the first time when Prince Phillip unveiled our design.

“As a growing media business it is great to have been appointed to two high profile briefs as a result of a Royal visit to the region. It allows us to showcase our video production and cutting edge animation skills in both the healthcare and education sectors.”

Oliver Chesher, the Manchester head of Admiral PR, which commissioned the video, said: “The nature of a Royal visit makes timescales tight and places a lot of restrictions on creative people but Seveer were never phased and made sure they got the best possible footage to create a fantastic visual record of the day.”

Susan Alison, director of corporate services at the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are really looking forward to the final cut of the film Seveer shot during the visit. You are so preoccupied at such an event that it’s important to have a visual record and be able to enjoy the edited highlights.”

Seveer Media – based in Ducie Street in Manchester’s Northern Quarter – was set up in 2005 by Stuart, and normally focuses on video production for advertising and corporate clients such as ITV, The Trafford Centre and The British Council.

Seveer Media can be found at www.seveermedia.com and www.twitter.com/seveermedia

The Prodigal is the second single from the acclaimed Manchester Four piece. The video was filmed by Seveer Media on location in Manchester city centre and included Architect Ian Simpson’s Penthouse at the top of Beetham Tower and The Circle Club.

In the first 2 weeks of it being live it had over 14ooo hits on YouTube, something we are very proud of at Seveer, and wish to thank all those who were involved.

Major thanks from the band also go to both Manchester City and Manchester United, Umbro, Pretty Green, Soccer Am, Ocean Colour Scene and James for assistance in promotion of the single out on 12 Dec.

The Rainband who also headlined at the Manchester HMV Ritz on 18th December- are looking set to become the ‘next big thing’.

I must say, I’m more interested in the talent that will have to be sourced from the North West rather than news of those who don’t fancy a move to Salford.

Watching the Blue Peter presenters leave London to occupy their new studio at MediaCityUK is encouraging.

Each show or department that relocates here gives the BBC the opportunity to show off the new facilities and offset much of the mainstream media negativity that has haunted the move.

Every time I read another media rant about the expense of MediaCity or fears that it’s set to be a ‘White Elephant’ I bang my head – and then I remember why I should be pleased.

Most creative businesses in the region will have experienced parochial prejudice at some point or another. Not being based in London can still sometimes count against you, wherever you call home.

Of course, there is amazing, cost effective creative work from the North West being delivered to clients based in the capital every day, but the fact that we have penetrated the preconception doesn’t mean it no longer exists.

Most articles about MediaCity and Salford – the ones that disingenuously paint the city as still being stuck in the days of L S Lowry – still refuse to use an up to date picture of the amazing transformation of the Quays.

This isn’t coming from our industry, it appears to be a stance that newsdesks in London have taken, printing articles discussing how preposterous it is to move such an institution ‘up North’ – even though other sectors have been slowly diversifying their geographic locations to cut costs for years.

‘Where will the talent live?’ the media asks, ignoring the proximity of some of the costliest rural real estate in the country just down the road in Cheshire and preferring to suggest that Gabby Logan – had she chosen to move with the BBC – would be forced to bunk up on the Chatsworth estate with the Gallaghers.

The pleasant fact is, 55 per cent of BBC staff involved have opted to move and, while this is impressive for such a big project, that leaves a lot of jobs which will need to be sourced from the abundance of talent we have in the region.

Designers, film-makers, writers, PR people, ad creatives – all can benefit from this. My business has five employees but I’m genuinely excited about the opportunities MediaCity and the knock on effect of the BBC relocation will create.

We’re a collaborative bunch in the North West and, like most, I like collaborating with talented people. New productions being conceived and filmed in the North West is great for businesses like Seveer.

Spin off projects, work filtering down from large ad agencies, fresh concepts to pitch for and new businesses locating here to be close to the decision makers.

You might suggest that with 55 per cent of BBC staff moving up from London, certain projects might still head back to creative contacts in the South East.

That’s why the unknown 45 per cent are important. They’ll be new, hungry and primarily employed from a pool outside of London, many from the North West.

And the generation which follow will be less likely to graduate and move away – MediaCity will be a thriving hub of creativity by then.

I’m happy not everyone wants to move. Be proud to stay in London if that’s where your heart is, it will always be a great place to live and work.

Just don’t knock the regions until you’ve seen what we can do.

We have been working on a ‘Hush Hush’ project for ITV, which we will talk about as soon as we can, and also have taken on 3 new clients in Morris Homes, the London Business School and Arvato. We are very excited about all of them as they all have different requirements and also come from different sectors.

getting your website on the front page of Google is 53 times more likely with good video optimisation, visitors to a site are 85% more likely to purchase after viewing a video, 96% of online shoppers watch video and a third of online retailers prioritised adding video to their websites last year! Continue reading →

In the last few years the increase in video online has been staggering. Is this because businesses like the idea of having something to show on their site? Well I think not.

I recently read that online video is projected to increase by 700% in the next 3 years, and a staggering 90% of all internet traffic will be related to video! So in answer to the question, I think its because businesses are realising they need to be internet savvy and also adaptable to the changes in the way people purchase goods and services.

I also read that getting your website on the front page of Google is 53 times more likely with good video optimisation, visitors to a site are 85% more likely to purchase after viewing a video, 96% of online shoppers watch video and a third of online retailers prioritised adding video to their websites last year!

So its very important that once you have decided to have a video online that its produced in the correct way to gain the results you want. Nothing will turn your potential clients away quicker than a badly produced film that doesn’t engage with them, so make sure you get it right the first time, as online shoppers are a quick to change pages if they don’t like what they see!

How many times have we been to a website and seen a very pretty film on the homepage which looks fantastic and makes the production company who made it look great, but doesn’t connect with your audience . It seems that some production companies think the end product just has to look amazing for them to feel like they have done a job well done. Or just turning up and filming is all that is required! We don’t think that way.

Its important to understand the client, know there needs and target the results they desire. Once this has been formulated its the time to start looking at ways to make the film/animation imaginative and engaging and as long as the ‘pretty’ nature of it doesn’t overshadow the message, it will be successful. Video is said to be a very powerful tool when connecting to your audience, but done the wrong way it can be damaging, so make sure the results you require are the focus of the brief. Let your video agency be creative but don’t wander from your end goal.

Our good friends the ‘Rainband’, launched their debut single at Liam Gallagher’s ‘Pretty Green’ store here in Manchester. Having shot the video for ‘She’s a Rainbow’ we were very excited by this, so we went along to capture this fantastic event. As ever the band were great, and it was a brilliant turnout. It was nice to hear that the decision to play at Liam’s store was helped by the video that we shot! This is an article about the event.
